Visit the permanent exhibition Centuries of Images and rediscover the MAJ’s collection through new activities designed for all your family members. Following different trails and exploration games, you will participate in an enriching experience that is as enjoyable for children as for adults!

Who seeks, finds!
Appeal to the observational skills of your youngest students by introducing them to the history of art through our treasure chest full of fun objects. Play a game of “seek and find”, matching the contents of the chest to works of art presented in the exhibition. Gales of laughter and tons of fun guaranteed!

Discovering the collection of the Musée d’art de Joliette
Take a trip along the paths of early and contemporary art with the help of a booklet of activities specially designed for the occasion and enable your young pupils to discover the MAJ’s collection. This is a playful and enriching way of sparking their curiosity while introducing them to the visual arts.

Landscape: a new attitude to a pictorial genre

Discover our permanent exhibition by following this new tour on the subject of landscape painting and the remarkable evolution of this genre down the centuries. Through the landscapes in the MAJ’s collection you will see the various stages that led to the progressive acceptance of this genre in the history of Western art.

A school outing like no other!

Guided tours of temporary exhibitions and the permanent exhibition Centuries of Images are available for school groups from kindergarten to Cégep, as are creativity workshops inspired by these exhibitions. Tours and workshops must be reserved in advance.

One hour, one artwork

Enrich your knowledge of the history of art with One Hour, One Artwork, a series of seven travelling lectures, each one dealing with a work from the collection of the MAJ. These presentations are offered to elementary schools and high schools, libraries, retirement homes, social and educational groups, as well as to all other organizations or business enterprises in the Lanaudière region, who may wish to take advantage of this opportunity. The presentations can be given in French or in English.

Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Museum Visits

Take advantage of our guided tours and discover our temporary exhibitions as well as our permanent exhibition, Centuries of Images, which will take you on a journey that charts the major developments in the culture of the image since the loss of its religious function in the 14th century. The tours are offered to individuals and families free of charge upon the purchase of an admission ticket. Length of visit: 60 minutes.

V.I.P. LECTURES

Exclusive talks by artists Jacques Hurtubise and Penelope Stewart. Take advantage of this V.I.P. event and learn more about the artistic practice and the preoccupations of these two artists who are the subject of solo shows this summer at the MAJ. LECTURE

Nathalie Miglioli, curator of Between Silk and Ink, will be giving a lecture discussing the historical and artistic context of Jacques Hurtubise’s oeuvre.
Nathalie Miglioli teaches the history of Canadian and Quebec art before the 1940s at Laval University and at UQAM. She is currently completing a Ph.D. dissertation on the historiography of Quebec art before the Quiet Revolution. Ms. Miglioli is the author of two books on Jacques Hurtubise: Hurtubise. À l’oeuvre!, a colour illustrated publication aimed at introducing a young audience to the work of this important Canadian artist, and Entre
la soie et l’encre
, the publication accompanying the exhibition on view (Between Silk and Ink).
