Adapted Services

The Musée d'art de Joliette is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. The building is provided with access ramps and an elevator. The galleries and service areas are adapted for wheelchairs, and an easy chair is also available for visitors.

Museum services can be adapted to accommodate visitors with a visual or intellectual handicap, attention deficit disorder or learning difficulties. The Museum’s guides have the necessary training and experience to provide adapted services for these visitors.

To encourage people to visit the collections, the MAJ has also created the programme One Hour, One Artwork. This travelling lecture series is aimed at helping participants understand the visual arts and the history of art. Designed for a wide audience, the series of eight lectures is ideally suited to primary and secondary schools, libraries, senior citizens’ homes, cultural and educational associations and any other institution or organization in the Lanaudière region that requests it. Lectures may be given in French or English.

Parking

The MAJ’s extensive outdoor parking lots are free for visitors. Ask for your parking sticker at the reception desk.

If you have difficulty finding parking in downtown Joliette, this is an option to consider. The Museum also rents parking spaces.

About Lanaudière

Located almost on Montreal’s doorstep, Lanaudière is one of Quebec’s most beautiful regions, offering visitors a natural environment that still remains largely pristine and untamed. The territory is bounded by the St. Lawrence River to the south and the Laurentian mountain range to the north. Lying between the Laurentides region in the west and Mauricie in the east, it is a vast north-south corridor some 250 km deep and up to 85 km wide, covering an area of 13,537 sq. km. Journeying along its full length, you’ll pass from quite densely populated areas to virtually uninhabited wilderness regions. Lanaudière is a place where natural wonders and culture live in perfect harmony.
