The exhibition Burrow was organized and circulated by the Oakville Galleries. Bringing together works on a single subject by four Canadian artists – Janice Kerbel (Ontario), Adriana Kuiper (Ontario), Liz Magor (Manitoba) and Samuel Roy-Bois (Quebec) – Burrow is an invitation to reflect on some vital aspects of our everyday existence: the ways in which we live, design and perceive our domestic and territorial spaces.
The Burrow project is an opportunity to think and ask questions about the spaces we inhabit and how architecture can represent psychological incarceration when it isolates people. The works gathered together for this show raise questions about social interaction and the way in which we occupy our land, and forces us to ponder some basic aspects of our daily lives. If we consider the subjects of refuge and solitude, we realize that the quest for a safe environment comes a cost, that of isolating ourselves from the outside world.
Shannon Anderson is the curator of this travelling exhibit presented for the first time at the Oakville Galleries in 2007. On that occasion a catalogue was published by the Oakville Galleries and the Musée d'art de Joliette.
The presentation of this exhibition at the Musée d’art de Joliette ha been made possible thanks to funding from the Canada Travelling Exhibitions Indemnification Program.
