By Marie-Eve Beaupré and Roald Nasgaard.
Published with the support of the Department of Canadian Heritage’s Museums Assistance Program, the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec, the Canada Council for the Arts, the City of Joliette, and the generous contribution of Patrice and Andrée Drouin.
This richly illustrated catalogue contains reproductions of some 30 major works dating from 1993 to 2008 and 2 original essays in which exhibition curator, Marie-Eve Beaupré, and art historian Roal Nasgaard, an expert in Canadian art, discuss thematically the artist’s approach to abstract painting by analyzing his investigations of the physical properties of materials and of the optical effects of colour, which have led to an important stylistic evolution and a radical transformation of his practice. This catalogue is published on the occasion of the exhibition François Lacasse. Outpourings, an exhibition organized and presented at the MAJ in 2009 and on view at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre in Kingston (Ont.) until August 1, 2011.
