Murphy’s recurring appearance on the gallery scene has led to a first solo exhibition in a museum setting. Cleverly flirting with the insignificant and the banal, Murphy’s sculptures, sculptural installations, drawings and collages push the formalist legacy into a corner and throw together notions as antithetical as chance and history. Serge Murphy has participated in several key group shows throughout Québec, most notably at the Musée du Québec and the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.
