Thirty-nine years of acquisitions
The collection of Dr. Jacques Toupin at the MAJ
Salle Harnois Groupe pétrolier
In 1983, Dr. Jacques Toupin of L’Assomption donated two oil paintings by Fernand Toupin to the Musée d’art de Joliette. Thirty-nine years later, the MAJ’s collection now contains over 350 works donated by this passionate collector. During this same period, Dr. Toupin has contributed greatly to the development of the institution by donating an impressive amount of time, ideas, and money, but also by proposing many philanthropic initiatives, thus helping the Museum to become what it is today. He served on the Board of Directors from 1986 to 2000 and on several committees, including the Acquisition Committee from 1988 to 2001.
We would like to pay special tribute to this generous donor by presenting some of the works he left us. These were chosen by Dr. Toupin himself and Mr. Jean-François Bélisle, Chief Curator and Executive Director of the MAJ. This selection offers only a brief glimpse of the richness and diversity of the important body of work that his collection now represents at the Museum.
This gesture is only the first public expression of the institution’s gratitude to this great patron. As future exhibitions unfold, the community will have the pleasure of discovering the treasures that Dr. Toupin has unearthed, acquired, and donated to the MAJ.
Dr. Toupin, we can never thank you enough for all that you have done for the Musée d’art de Joliette.
– The MAJ team
