Sequential Portraits

Eric Simon

Curatorial : Ève-Lyne Beaudry

From May 20 2007 to September 2 2007

About —

The exhibition Eric Simon: Sequential Portraits pivots on two axes: the portrait as the result of a process of observation and identification, and the portrait as a representation of feelings. The spectator is faced with four series of oil portraits, each of which is made up of 16 images laid out in a horizontal strip, along with a group of drawings which occupies an entire section of wall. Each series of painted portraits is devoted to a young person perceived from 16 different angles as if in rotation about a fixed axis. The series of pencil drawings constitutes a selection from a personal “diary in self-portraits” which the artist kept between 1980 and 2004.

This exhibition is produced by the Musée d’art de Joliette and curated by Eve-Lyne Beaudry, assistant curator of the Musée. His work can also be seen at the Graff Gallery, in Montreal, from May 24 to June 30.
