About —

As part of the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the Académie Antoine-Manseau and the 165th anniversary of the foundation of the Joliette Seminary, the MAJ presents an exhibition featuring 19 professional artists from the Lanaudière region, who are former students or staff members of these schools. The works on view demonstrate the importance that these learning establishments have given to art education. In fact, the foundation of the MAJ and its mission find their origin in the high regard that the Joliette Seminary had for art.

Filiatio brings together the works of Anaïs Beauchemin-Hétu, Philippe Bettinger, François Blouin, Christine Bolduc, Hélène Bonin, Maximilien Boucher, Yanna Ève Cimon, Gaël Comeau, Magalie Comeau, Wilfrid Corbeil, Marie-Didace Doyon, Josée Fafard, Pascale Ferland, Jérôme Fortin, Pierrette Lafrenière, Annick Lavallée-Benny, Véronique Malo, Gaétan Therrien and Marie-Hélène Turcotte. Through different mediums — drawing, painting, photography, new media — and a vast array of techniques that represent the visual arts in all their richness and variety, the exhibition underscores the originality of each artist.

The Joliette Seminary, founded in 1846 by Barthélemy Joliette and the cleric Antoine Manseau, was run by the Clerics of Saint-Viator. The Académie Antoine-Manseau was founded in 1986 in order to take over the educational mission of the Seminary. This exhibition is the opportunity for the Académie to highlight the exceptional talent of its graduates who have become professional artists and for the MAJ to feature several artists from the region whose works are part of its collection.
