About —
The MAJ presents Sit Your Sorry Asses Down, the latest work by the British-born artist Adrian Norvid. Enshrining ruptures and breaking with convention, this work plunges the visitor into an unbelievable world. The idiom, echoing the Southern rock and roll rock spirit of the 1970s, is displayed in a Georgian-interior – the English neo-classic style fashionable in the 18th and 19th centuries. The scene takes place the morning after a heavy drinking party, and we surprise the guests asleep at the tables. But this scene is in movement. Caught in the updraft from the stairway, the table napkin is being swept away, dragging along with it the cutlery and dishes.
This painting by Adrian Norvid is the kick-off for a new series of exhibitions entitled Wall to Wall set up by the Musée d’art de Joliette. Once a year the MAJ will invite an artist to take over the vast wall of the staircase in the entrance hall. The artwork presented in this setting is specifically created for the site, thus at the same time establishing a link with the exhibitions on display in the Museum’s other floors.Wall to Wall, which is not part of regular programming, is designed to introduce new creations by today’s artists in an unusual space. The wall serves as a blank page that a number of individual artists will be invited to fill in.
